Somerville High School moves on to High School Quiz Show Quarterfinals on WGBH This Saturday

Somerville High School has moved on to the quarterfinal round to compete against Hingham High School on WGBH’s High School Quiz Show this week. Somerville defeated Acton-Boxborough High School in the first round on February 25 with a final score of 630 to 330. 

The episode will air this Saturday, April 8 at 6pm on WGBH 2.  

High School Quiz Show is a seeded, single-elimination tournament is produced and broadcast by WGBH and hosted by Billy Costa. Sixteen teams of Massachusetts high school students advanced from a pool of over 110 schools to compete in the televised academic tournament. The sixteen schools competing on High School Quiz Show earned the highest scores on an identical oral quiz at WGBH’s “Super Sunday” qualifying event at WGBH studios in Brighton, MA. The season eight field includes four past champions and two schools making their first appearance in the tournament.

Eight Schools Advance to WGBH’s High School Quiz Show Quarterfinals

 

Students from eight Massachusetts high schools move on to the next round of competition beginning April 1 on WGBH 2

 

BOSTON (March 27, 2017) – WGBH’s High School Quiz Show has announced the eight Massachusetts high schools that have advanced to the quarterfinal round of the academic competition. The sixteen teams that competed in the first round received the highest scores at Super Sunday, emerging from a pool of more than 110 Massachusetts high schools vying for a spot on the program. The quarterfinals of the award-winning academic tournament begin Saturday, April 1 at 6pm on WGBH 2 when Brookline High School takes on Lexington High School. The other matchups are:

 

April 8: Hingham High School vs. Somerville High School         

          

April 15: Chelmsford High School vs. Newton North High School           

              

April 22: Advanced Math and Science Academy vs. Thayer Academy

 

“We have a strong group of students moving into the next round of High School Quiz Show,” said executive producer Hillary Wells. “Their hard work and

preparation has really paid off, and we wish them all the best as we head into the quarterfinals.” 

 

Hosted by Billy Costa, High School Quiz Show is produced and broadcast by WGBH. The eighth season of the program concludes on Saturday, May 13 with

the Massachusetts State Championship at 6pm, followed by the fifth annual Governor’s Cup Challenge, an interstate quiz show face-off, at 6:30pm where

WGBH’s High School Quiz Show state champion team will meet New Hampshire Public Television’s Granite State Challenge winner.
