While in uniform operating a police bicycle and doing bicycle enforcement at the corner of Beacon Street and Somerville Avenue, I observed traffic eastbound on Somerville Avenue come to a complete stop at the corner of Mossland Street and Somerville Avenue, both public ways in the City of Somerville. I then heard the loud whining sound of a motorcycle engine, and witnessed a blue Suzuki motorcycle, operated by Mr. Mykael J. Valley, pass the cars stopped at this red light and accelerate wildly through it. Mr. Valley then accelerated at a high rate of speed up Somerville Avenue. As he passed through the red light at the corner of Beacon and Somerville Avenue where I was standing, his motorcycle fishtailed.
I mounted my bicycle, and because of a red light at the corner of Sacremento Street, I was able to pull up alongside Mr. Valley. The distance between Beacon and Sacremento Street along Somerville Avenue was about 1/4 of a mile. When I instructed him to pull to the side of the road, it appeared to me that he was going to take off on me, so I ordered him to turn the engine off. A check of LEAPS showed that Mr. Valley had an expired motorcycle learner’s permit, so I placed him under arrest. He was transported to the Station, and his motorcycle was towed by Pat’s Tow.
Respectfully submitted,
Deputy Chief Carrabino
