The following is a summary of the details related to this incident.
On June 30, 2016 at approximately 10:23 hours, while assigned as marked unit East-1, I was dispatched to Saks Off Fifth Avenue for a report of a shoplifter in the office. Marked unit East-4 Officer Catatao was also dispatched. I arrived on scene and found Parris Colon in the loss prevention office with Saks loss prevention officer XXXXX. XXXXX had observed Colon conceal one pair of Versace sunglasses valued at $99.99 and 2 pairs of Fendi sunglasses valued at $119.99 each on his person. The total value of these items is $361.22. Colon concealed this merchandise on his person and attempted to exit the store when XXXXX stopped him and escorted him to the loss prevention office without incident. I asked Colon why he was attempting to steal the merchandise and he stated that he was behind on his rent, was paying a lot of money in child support, and it was his daughter’s birthday.
I contacted dispatch and asked they conduct a query of Colon in the Warrant Management System. The search revealed that Colon currently has two active default warrants originating out of Boston. Colon was placed under arrest for the active warrants and also charged with violation of M.G.L. ch. 266 §30 Larceny over $250. Saks issued Colon a verbal “No Trespass” order and advised him that the store may seek civil compensation for the theft.
Respectfully submitted,
Officer Anderson #315
