The following is a brief summary of facts surrounding the events which took place on December 5th, 2015, at approximately 7:18 P.M., involving Brent Thomas, the defendant on the matter of Larceny Over $250.00 and XXXXX (Asset Protection Investigator) employed by the Victim, Saks Fifth Avenue store. All minute details will not be included in the summary.
While monitoring the surveillance camera XXXXX observed (at approximately 7:18 P.M.) a Black male enter the store. The Black male later identified as Brent Thomas posed around the store as a shopper and spend the majority of his time lurking in the Men’s Contemporary Department. At 7:20:37 P.M. Brent focused his attention on the display with the brand “True Religion” and snatched a stack of blue jeans. Brent walked in a hurry over to another display, throws the stack of blue jeans on the ground and with his foot hides the stack underneath the display. Brent then squats down and pulls a white bag from his pocket, grabs the stack of blue jeans from underneath the display and places it inside the white bag. At approximately 7:22 P.M. Brent walks out of Saks Fifth Avenue and heads towards the parking lot in front of KMart and TJ Maxx.
XXXXX had already reported the situation over the phone to Officer Pulli as it was unfolding from the beginning and Officer Pulli was relaying this information to Somerville Police Dispatch. Via the conveyor of information, I, in marked unit East 1 and marked unit East 4 (Officer Perrone and Officer O’Brien) were able to rendezvous with XXXXX in the parking lot of TJ Maxx to attempt to track Brent. Brent was later apprehended hiding between two parked cars.
During XXXXX’s foot surveillance of Brent outside of Saks Fifth Avenue, XXXXX yelled at Brent to drop the bag on the ground. XXXXX had to ask multiple times before Brent complied and dropped the bag. XXXXX picked up the bag and Brent kept on making his way away from XXXXX, but then Brent turned around and started walking towards XXXXX stating, “You want to be a f***ing hero, I’ll come back and snatch that bag from you.”
During the arrest Brent was forcefully pulling his arms apart in order to avoid being placed in handcuffs and required Officer O’Brien, Officer Perrone and I to subdue Brent in order to place the handcuffs on him.
Brent was transported to Police Headquarters by Officer Ducasse and Officer Goulart to be booked and process by Lt. DiGregorio in the usual manner.
Respectfully Submitted,
Officer Henry Diaz
