Hear Me Out results in new friendships and story
recordings. Some LGBT Advisory Board members
partnered with students from Somerville High School’s
Gay-Straight-Alliance (GSA) and Tufts University, to
participate in an intergenerational oral histories program.
“Hear Me Out” brought members together in a group
setting at the Central Library for conversations about their
experiences as members of the LGBT community living
Somerville. Each older adult was partnered with a younger
participant. The new pair then spoke about the differences
between their generations, all the while finding connections
in the stories they told. The recordings of these oral
histories are now part of StoryCorps, the largest oral
history project of its kind, and will be available soon.
Contact us for more details. Heartfelt thanks to the
Somerville High School Gay Straight Alliance, Tufts
University LGBT Center, the Somerville Public Library,
and Simmons School of Social Work for their support.
