Last week Deputy Chief Michael Cabral
and Officer Michael Kiely were flagged down in traffic by a man who was
requesting assistance.
The man told the officers that his pregnant wife is
in the car and is in labor.
The man’s vehicle with his wife inside of it was stuck in bumper to bumper traffic in
Union Square and desperately needed to get to the Cambridge City
Hospital.
Officer Kiely positioned his cruiser in front of the mini-van
while Deputy Cabral positioned his cruiser behind the van.
The officers
then safely provided a police escort to the Cambridge City Hospital
where emergency room doctors and nurses were waiting.
As a token of their appreciation, Chris and Rebecca Thomas sent cupcakes
from Somerville’s own – “KICK*SS CUPCAKES to the duo.
They also sent a thank you card that read-
“Many thanks for your assistance in getting me to the hospital quickly
and safely on Monday (April 7, 2014).
My husband Chris and I are very
grateful for your quick response.
Chris doesn’t think it is entirely
appropriate for me to send a sweet treat, but please accept these
cupcakes as a small symbol of our gratitude for your assistance.
I mean
who can resist cupcakes, especially from an insistent pregnant lady?”
Sincerely, Rebecca & Chris

Letter from Deputy Chief of Police Michael S. Cabral to the new parents:
Chris,
Sometimes people say there’s never a police officer around when you need
one.
Fortunately for you and Rebecca, you didn’t find one, you found
two. It was our pleasure and we were glad to help. It was actually the
best part of our day, because we were on our way to Plymouth for the
wake of Plymouth Police Officer Gregg Maloney, who was killed in the
line of duty. I wish you the best with your new baby!
Sincerely,
Mike
